Neeps: The Cauldron

The cauldron allows you to work with groups of events. You can track down particular events and make changes to them.


Events Tab

Events may be dragged into the cauldron. You can also use copy and paste to get specific events into the cauldron.

To remove an item from the caulrod simply select it (or them) and click on "Exclude Selection".

Finding particular items

You can include events with particular properties. For example if you click the button "Unplaced (Session)" then all the events which are do not have a time slot will be included.

Fixed roomEvents with the fixed room flag set
Fixed sessionEvents with the fixed session flag set
People ClashesFor each event we check all the people attending - if the event participates in a "clash" then it is included.
The small box gives details of the clash.
Checking for clashes in a large file may take a long time.
Room clashesEvents which clash with other events over rooms are included.
UnsatisfactoryThe requirements and satisfactions are checked for each event. Those found wanting are included
KindThose events whose "kind" matches that specified are included
PrefixEvents whise names begin with the specified string
At least this bigEvents of the size given or larger are included
The size of an event is the sum of the sizes of the student groups (directly) attending it.
No bigger thanEvents smaller or equal to the value given
On DayAll events on the specified day are included. 0 is Monday, 1 is Tuesday, ...
PasteThe events in the clipboard are included in the cauldron
CountThe number of events and the total hours are updated
Write event detailsAll the details of all the events in the cauldron are written to a "Tab delimited file". This format can be easily laoded into a spreadsheet or converted into a table in a word processor. Users should use the spreadsheet or word processor to delete columns which are not required.
CancelSome operations (such as clash checking) can take a long time to complete. If you run out of patience press this.
Select in Event listAll items in the cauldron are selected in the main event list window. If you wanted to delete from the database all the events in the cauldron you whould do the following:
  • Clear the selection in the event list window.
    Select a single item then unselect it by click with "Ctrl"
  • Click "Select in Event List" on the cauldron window.
  • Click the "-" button on the event list window.

Add/Filter/Select

Items may be included in one of three ways:

Add
This is "normal" - all events in the database are checked, those which satisfy the criteria are added to the cauldron. (without duplication)
Filter
Only the events already in the cauldron are checked. Those events which pass the test are retained.
Select
Onlky those events in the cauldron are tested. Those which pass the test are highlighted. (In addition to any already selected)
