CALL FOR PAPERS International Conference and Workshop on the Engineering of Computer Based Systems (ECBS) CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOP: ECBS-99 will be the twelfth in a series of IEEE sponsored meetings dedicated to formulating and advancing methodologies and techniques for Engineering of Computer-Based Systems (ECBS). This emerging discipline is devoted to design, development, deployment, and analysis of complex systems whose behavior is, to a substantial degree, determined or controlled by computers. Their functional, performance, and reliability requirements mandate the tight integration of information processing and physical processes. ECBS encompasses many facets: modeling, requirements specification, simulation, architectures, communications, safety, security, reliability software, hardware, human computer interfacing, system integration, verification and testing and project management. ECBS takes a holistic approach. It aims to integrate systems engineering of Computer-Based Systems with the detailed design and realization of engineering fields such as software, hardware or codesign into a complete engineering discipline. The conference provides a bridge between industry and academia, and the program will provide a balanced view of academic research and industrial developments. Contributions are sought in two major categories: fundamental ECBS technologies and application domain areas.
SCOPE: Fundamental ECBS technologies include but are not limited to:
In addition to technology foundations, papers are solicited to present case studies, trends and new system characteristics achieved by ECBSs in application domains such as:
THE WORKSHOP: The workshop provides a forum for Working Group sessions with round table discussions. Working Groups active within the TC currently are: Architecture; Standards; Modeling and Simulation; Research; Forensics; Case Study; Education and Training; ECBS Process and Information Model TUTORIALS: ECBS 99 will include tutorials on Sunday, March 7 before the conference. Proposals are invited for half day and full day tutorials. Tutorials should focus on engineering of computer based systems as a discipline rather than on general systems engineering or software engineering. SUBMISSION OF PAPERS: Five (5) copies of full papers (4000-6000 words plus references) must be received by September 15, 1998 (hard copies only). The papers will be refereed and authors notified by December 1, 1998. Send all submissions and to the Program Chair: Perry Alexander The University of Cincinnati, ECECS Department PO Box 210030, Cincinnati, OH 45221-0030 USA email: perry.alexander@uc.edu SUBMISSION OF TUTORIAL PROPOSALS: Five (5) copies of tutorial proposals, containing a complete description of tutorial content, should be sent to the Tutorial Chair received by September 15, 1998 (hard copies only): R. Byron Purves The Boeing Company 499 Boeing Blvd MS JN-80 Huntsville, Alabama 35824-6402, USA Email: byron.purves@boeing.com
